Radiant Silvergun on ebay.com.au

12:58 AM, December 14, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

This certainly is a first for ebay.com.au- Radiant silvergun for Sega Saturn is gong under the hammer, and with 12 hours to go the current bid is $202.50. Sure it may come up more often on ebay.com, but this is Australia, and games like RSG don't turn up every day. Too bad I don't have $200+, but if I did I certainly wouldn't be bidding on this auction, because I still haven't bought a 4-in-1 cart to play the import shmup I already own (Darius Gaiden). While I'm on high priced sega auctions, I might as well point this out. Hopefully my trip to the pawn store tomorrow will yield a good find of such quality =)

Site News: Lots of little stuff- fixed some typos , changed the currently playing, and added a favicon and a faq. Exciting stuff indeed!

Wellprobly not...but there is some good stuff around, like a link to oneof the best pages on the web without a doubt. Just check out the NESClassics and Mediocrity sections, andsome exciting new sections - Coming Soon. Oh and just a note, I've never been much of a writer so dont worry about having to read any huge reviews ;-).

A Deus

12:59 AM, November 14, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

I've made the tiniest of changes to the Talbain wallpaper, so now it looks better. Youd be a chump not to check it out. Its now 1:06, and the only reason im here is to report that item of good news, and because GamingFM is playing 2 command and conquer tracks. Hot damn i love GamingFM. Internet radio is the new peoples voice! (or something like that)..

New Game! Thunderforce IV
8:04 PM, October 24, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

One of my best finds yet, I found Thunderforce IV (Lightning Force in America) at the local pawn store that is one of 2 places around here that sells old games. Even better is We can be heroes....the fact that all Mega Drive and Master system games are Aus $5, no matter what the game or condition. NES games are Aus $8, and if i hadnt owed gary I would have walked out with 3 Mega Drive games- The Adventures of Mighty Max, and Sonic The Hedgehog.
Oh well, at least gary got Isolated warrior- which is pretty cool but nowhere near as good. Thunderforce IV looks very nice next to my Thunderfoce II because they both have the same style of box, so I'm on the lookout for Thunderfoce III to complete the Thunderforce collection (TF I is apparently only available on an old and obscure console).

Interestingly enough, This is the first time I've got another game from a series, i.e Thunderforce 2 and IV. Until now I just had 1 game from a few different series' (Only Mortal Kombat 1, only Sonic 2, etc), okay so i already had Madden '92 and '93, but I'm not much of an NFL fan and those were freebies. I actually thought i would have another sonic game before anything else. Oh well, Im not complaining, because Thunderforce IV is one of the best shooting games on any 16-bit console.

It looks like this will be the last game i get for a while because im saving for a new video card for my computer. Im thinkin either an ATI Radeon 9200se (Aus $103), or a 7500 (Aus $96). The 7500 is only slightly slower than a Geforce4 mx440, and the 9200se is faster than the mx400 but breaks the $100 barrier which is really more of a psychological thing, but would make it that little bit harder to get before Ultim@te Lan 5.0 (our 4 times a year LANathon)

Site News: Fixed a link in the reviews page, and did the next section in the Master System Mega-file- RPG's Im also working on a FAQ, because im really, really bored.

Survivor - Been there, Done That.

10:15 PM, October 20, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

Today is Monday. Monday night, 9:30PM is survivor night. I dont watch survivor, but I am forced at gunpoint to tape it (and I comply, of course). My brother AND my mum watch it, and this time I watched 5 mins, just to see if it was still as stupid as it was (yes, it still is stupid).
Soon I started thinking about what survivor would have to do to be cool, and watchable:

Replace Stupid Looser host with the one and only Space Ghost. Space Ghost would give the show "street cred", because space ghost is a big talk show host, and has connections.

Instead of contestants eating gruel, they should be eating Soylent Green. No real reason behind this decision, it would just be cool (or repulsive, depending on how you look at it..)

Replace Prizes of "beds and food" with "Death Rays and Grenade Launchers".

Special guests to include: Sonny (or a sonny replicon) and Cher, The Harlem Globe Trotters, and The Swat Katz.

In the final days of the competition, all remaining contestants will be forced to hold of either An alien ground Invasion, or Horde of undead Creatures.

By now im sure you agree that this New Survivor is far more appealing than the old, tired out survivor. Other cool things about "Super Survivor" include not having to look at filthy starving excuses for people, and up to 90% less whining and complaining (on account of the guns).
Had to remove the counter because it stopped. Let the records show that it stopped at 1993 visitors, and also one of many years in which the Mega Drive dominated sales.
I also added a wallpaper from Warcraft 3, which is currently the wallpaper for my computer. I also redesigned the downloads page to have (heaps) less white space.
BTW- If you havent checkout out rRootage yet, be sure to do so, even if your a softcore like Gary and Shanon...

rRootage Review
5:39 PM, October 18, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

Does it get any better than free? For the last week ive been living off nothing but Enemy Territory and rRootage, and to pay my tribute to the greatness that is rRootage, i put up a review and lots of screenshots. I definately recommend you check it out.

New Collecting Thing

2:36 PM, October 09, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

Good News: As of this moment forth, I will be adding "Video game action figures" to my list of things i collect. Now my list comprises of: Video Games, and Video game action figures.
Bad News: As of this moment forth my chances of ever getting a girlfriend just decreased to roughly 10% of slim and none. Meh.

I got the first of my sweeet action figures from Electronics Boutique for the princely sum of Aus $14.95, which is pretty damn good IMO. Hopefully ill be able to snag myself a Space Channel 5 figure, and a Soul Calibur one. While at EB i overheard some phrases that made me "laughing emoticon" inside (i dont do LOL)

  • "Check this gameboy thing out, its got like playstation graphics n shit" -One of 4 hoods bemused by Nokias N-gage.
  • "Windows 98 doesnt come with USB support out of the box" - EB slave praising windows XP. Lucky for me windows 98 does come with USB support, but 95 does not. Note to self: never ask EB slaves for advice.

    and my favourite:
  • "Ooooh, the internet" - Some lady being told what x-box live is (for 5th time).

Im still working on the Master system Megafile, and i should have finished the Plaform and RPG sections by tonight. Imminent Uploasion =)

Ultim@te LAN 4.0, ADSL, Duron 1400 and new site

11:15 PM, October 5, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

Holy crap what a month. Now that Ultim@te LAN 4.0 is finished, and i have a fully working computer (thank you vortex of sound for the drivers) im going to get back to what i love most- This goddam site that i love so much=) (and uni of course).
Ultim@te LAN 4.0 Highlights:

  • Worms World Party.
  • Medal Of Honour (shaz may disagree though)
  • NFS 5 porsche 2000, which was a pleasant surprise.
  • Having a fourth contestant, which meant a Total Annihilation 2v2 ARM/CORE Showdown.
  • Bigger tables- plenty of space this time, but dont thank me- thank the wrestling table =)
  • Me no longer having the slowest computer, thus rasing the lowest spec to a p3- 700 with a TNT2 (you know who you are..)
  • Our Glorious cola can castle.

Ultim@te LAN 4.0 Lowlights:

  • My computer not working at one point. Fortunately it happened before tea, and everyone decided to go home for tea which left me to format (in record time might I add)
  • Gary's computer piking up BIG TIME! Damn you windows XP
  • Gary convieniently having to leave right about when CORE was consolidating its defensive positions and preparing for a push to capture a crucial island to the north.
  • Some scum-bags syphoned (wheres a dictionary when you need one) petrol out of shanons car! Diabolical.
  • The M64's. Without which we would have been playing UT2003....
  • Local game store not having Midtown Madness 2, and only having NFS3 and 5 (we wanted 4 goddamit). In the end we settled for 5 and Rune. Rune is ok, though it saw no multiplayer action.

Rumour has it, that the menus on this site are changing very soon, what the outcome will be? A mystery to all.
Expect to see a new question on the poll once we can come to an agreement, since the current question has out stayed its welcome for a long time now.
I shall be working on my first SNES game review in the coming weeks, haven't decided what game yet, so come back to check it out!

Finally the UL5 + UL6 wallpapers by --Shaz-- Design will be here shortly, available in the downloads page.

Numerous and belligerent

9:37, January 16, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

After much deliberation I finally decided on buying a new HDD for my humble PC- no longer will I have to work around 6.4gb, and I eagerly await the imminent arrival of my Seagate 7200 80gb Barracuda. I ordered it from gamedude ,and so far things have gone smooth enough, so check them out if your thinkin of an upgrade =)

Ive uploaded the first part of my current Sega games list, and I added a link to Nes Land on the links page. While im here I might aswell point out that iinet Australia has improved its broadband plans, so now you can get 6gig ADSL for AUD $49.95 a month. Brilliant.

Happy New Years- 2004 is gonna kick even more ass!

12:58 AM, January 2, 2003 AD -The Great Escape

Not a whole lot has been goin on here at the retroworkz, but I added some meta tags to some pages, added a couple of new links and thats about it for today.

Ive got a good list of stuff I plan on adding to the site, and seeing as how I have very little to do in the next few days/weeks I think ill get started on it:

- Comparison of an Official Sega 6-button arcade stick and a cheapo 3-button stick
- A brief review for Sum of all Fears on PC, because I just finished it.
- A review of Road Rash and Hurricane's for Mega Drive.
- A list of games and hardware in my sega collection.
- Do a few more sections of the Master System Megafile , and possibly start on the game gear one.
- If I can be bothered I'll add a back panel to my "cabinet", and upload photos of what it looks like.

My humble PC is gonna get an upgrade soon too. Exciting stuff! =)
