Christmas Present

Messenjah - 1:15PM, December 23, 2005 by --Shaz--

Just thought I would give a little present to our regular visitors(?) before christmas this year, with a new wallpaper ready for some downloading action. The Legend of Zelda is the focus for the wallpapers this week, with Street Fighter II on the cards for the next installment.

Also the Downloads page has now been re-jigged so that you might find it a bit more user friendly :P

Until next time have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

Update v1.84

Messenjah - 3:10PM, November 29, 2005 by --Shaz--

Just some minor updates for today. First up I've added a few more entries into the Snes System Combinations page, and some tweaks to the Game Focus section. Secondly a poster for the Nes section is now available on the Nes Posters page.

Something's Happening !?! 2

Messenjah - 10:40PM, November 9, 2005 by --Shaz--

Freed from the tyranny of uni work for another year. I have been hard at work conjuring up some new sections for the SNES Arena. So here they for all to enjoy:

Also there's more to come in the near future, with a rare games section being formulated as we speak. Finally, NES fans wake up. Something NES related is coming to this site after over a year waiting for Gaz to do anything. By last reports he is still alive, but will not likely grace us with his NES know-how any longer. Hence forth we shall be doing some work in the NES section to provide some much needed substance :P

Twin Hawk, where art thou?

5:18 PM, October 15, 2005 by
The Great Escape

While striking Art of Fighting off my wanted list yesterday, I noticed that I still had Twin Hawk on it. I'd rather buy it locally than import from ebay UK, so this is something of a last gasp call to anyone in Australia that has a spare (complete) copy of Twin Hawk for the Mega Drive; I want your Twin Hawk!

Speaking of Art of Fighting, its been added to the fighters review, and a couple of other small changes have been made to various Mega Drive pages. Hopefully I'll be able to (finally) pick up Eternal Champions and add that too soon.

Intraweb History made! Lazy gamers finally buy domain.

The Great Escape

Actually, I'm fairly sure my colleagues resent the lazy remark, but in any case we FINALLY registered a domain name. It took every bit of our intelligence, but we finally settled on www.perfectconversion.net, so be sure to update your bookmarks, etc. At the moment it simply redirects to the longer url, but its far easier to remember and type, so you can thank us later.

So What if its not level?

It works doesn't it! That is my all purposes rebuttal for when people ask my my Arcade cab is a little rickety. If all goes to plan however, I won't need to use the same excuse for the super-fantastico shelves I now have to build to house my ever increasing Mega Drive collection (129 at last count). I've got a nice little spot pegged out, and I will begin construction this afternoon. I'll try and do a more in-depth feature on that if it works out the way I hope, and I don't slice my fingers off (man + powertools = potential disaster).

Like the shelves, clearing out my "to-scan" list is something I'm getting done. A couple of new scans have been sprinkled around the site, in particular on the Historical Archive page. Good news for MegaZone fans indeed.

Wallpapers, Cartridge Holders, Reviews?

Messenjah - 2:40PM, July 20, 2005 by
--Shaz--

If you like the Metroid or Mega Man games, then you'll love the 2 wallpapers I have for you to download. the Metroid one is completely new, and Mega Man gets a face lift from the previous version.

Now for something new on this site. Ever thought you wouldn't mind replacing some of those dirty banged up Snes cartridge holders? Well I have made a nice little template with instructions for you to download in the Snes Arena.

AND, I have been wondering whether to add some game reviews, but since that requires some effort, it could take a while ; )

BUY MY STUFF: Part II

12:52aM, June 17, 2005 AD by The Great Escape

Lately I've been playing the demo for Lords Of magic and I gotta say, its very engrossing fantasy strategy hybridy stuff. I love it. I remember seeing the box for it in a game store back when it was released (1997) and thinking how cool that game must be. It wasn't until I spotted it in a compilation pack at Dick Smith Electronics that I remembered to check it out. Though I've only been playing the demo, I intend to pick up the full version in the next couple of days.

I definitely recommend you check the demo out if you enjoyed Heroes of might and magic, or Age of wonders- the demo is less than 20mb so what have you got to lose ? ;)

Next on my list of stuff to mention: Shaz's list of best games ever. WTFSUPERMARIO64? heh, I'm just messin. Its a great list and I recommend you all check it out and maybe even compare it to my own. Or put them together and you have a gaming bounty!

Third on the mention list: Thanks go out to Bob, who emailed me and mentioned that Ranger X is compatible with the Mega Drive 6-button controller. Despite the fact that I own the game, I never really gave it the time of day (or long enough to notice the 6-button feature), not that its a bad game mind you. The problem with Ranger X is that (as Bob touched on) its very, very, very hard and confusing.

For some (most) people the sheer amount of on-screen action coupled with the prospect of controlling 2 vehicles at once is simply too much to handle, and they shelf the game. Other people pick it up and immediately feel right at home with the control scheme and gameplay, and find an enjoyable, technically exceptional horizontal shooter. Perfect Conversion salutes Bob for giving Ranger X the time of day, and emailing us with the tipoff. See the revised 6-button list here.

Finally, I have some pimping to do. I currently have on ebay some Mega Drive games- Linky- so now is your chance to own a piece of Perfect Conversion history!

What's that you say? You don't have a Mega Drive!? Don't delay; buy one now - Linky - from my fellow retro gamer and hyperactive moderator Erzi. Tell him you found the link from here and he might even sell me the 32x connector cable he's hoarding safe-guarding.

THE LIST

Messenjah - 6:40PM, June 13, 2005 by
--Shaz--

Following the idea of The Great Escape, I --Shaz-- have decided to make my own Greatest Games Ever List. It wasn't easy, I admit, but it's good to go back on some of the old gaming memories.

Note: This list does not include rankings or scores, it's too hard to rank the greatest games!

Also if you make your way over to the snes arena section, you might notice that I have altered the look to the site there. This new look is pending approval from the other perfect conversion webmasters to date.

NHLPA '93: DEFEATED!

2:34aM, June 08, 2005 AD by The Great Escape

CHAMPIONS

That's right- on a cloudy monday afternoon during june of 2005, Yours truly and his teammate Shaz, obtained the EA Cup after winning the Playoffs in NHLPA '93. It might not sound like much in writing, but the amount of time we put into this game made it all so sweet. Defeat after defeat, heart break after heart break, we persisted. Even after countless overtime defeats and miraculous AI comebacks (read: cheating hax), our determination was as strong as ever going into the finals game against Chicago. I'm not entirely sure of the numbers, but it went something like this..

Montreal Holding the EA Cup at last!A strong start by the home team of Montreal got them off to a 3-0 buffer and with strong goal keeping and constant offensive pressure they looked in total control of the game. An additional goal lifted spirits higher than ever, but that was where the fun stopped, as the AI had a game plan. A quick Chicago goal that had left the humans of Montreal floundering clued the crowd into what was to come. The puck returns to the center for the traditional face-off, but Chicago wins it and sends the puck forward quickly. The home teams decision to leave offsides off (coz they suck) punished them this time, as the Chicago forwards breezed through to make the score 4-2.

The next period of play is tense; with the humans more determined than ever not to let another goal in things remain scoreless until Montreal gain a breakthrough with a couple of quick goals to return their 3 goal buffer and make it a 4 goal lead- 6-2. Chicago manages to score 2 more quick goals coming into the final period, but Montreal were all to keen to return the favour and make it 8-4.

Deciding it was time to close up shop, the Montreal humans keep play tight and in the offensive half. A late consolation Chicago goal did nothing to dampen the celebrations of Montreal, who had achieved what once looked to be all but impossible. Final Score: 8-5

Our next conquest: NHL 94
Expect an update on that in at least 6-months..

Revolution?A video has been released displaying the Nintendo 'Revolution' console. This video is incomplete but gives us the first glimpse of Nintendo’s next gen console. unfortunately it has yet to be verified as authentic, nevertheless it shows some intriguing aspects of gaming that Revolution could behold. Read about it here :)

ww what ?

Lately I've been thinking about getting one of those fancy www.com addresses, so people like you wouldn't have to type in the cacophony of text that is the current address (http://members.iinet.net.au/~smi03 for those of you not paying attention). The problem is I'm still trying to decide if the investment is worth it, and if so, what name to get? We (the webmasters/editors//lazy gits of this site) have discussed it before but could never come up with anything short enough to be easily memorised. I'll have to kick it over in my head sometime when I'm not playing ET or Ace Combat 4...

If you didn't catch that last sentence, it was the hook line designed to lure you to the page I've been working on for the last couple of days. Have a look fans and gamers.

Local Gamer kicks wall and Curses as OFLC effectively bans another game.

1:23AM, April 19, 2005 AD by
The Great Escape

Narc Denied!I know it didn't exactly get rave reviews, but god damnit I was really looking forward to NARC. That is, until the OFLC (Australia's ratings board) refused the game classification, therein banning its sale/distribution in Australia. Full article available here.
NARC joins a long list of games unavailable for sale here, such as Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Manhunt, Singles, a crap load of pr0n games and FMV. In addition to the banned games, there's a fair few more popular games that have had to be modified to come under OFLC's strict rating system (GTA being the most notable).

I don't know about you personally, but the loss of NARC is the final straw for me and I plan to become active where possible in the fight for a fairer ratings system or an 18+ rating. The OFLC has a contact page and I for one have sent an email expressing my disappointment in their decision. Remember NARC!

In terms of actual site content, I uploaded the first review in the new Library. Pretty swanky stuff. I also updated my collection and ate some cake. Yummay!

An update for you.

The Great Escape

You know you haven't updated the site enough when there's a news post from freakin August at the bottom of the page :o

So I worked half of my arse off and wrote a review for the TV Games Namco 5-in-1 controller. Its a nifty little box that looks pretty cool on the shelf, in the fridge or wherever good times are had. I also added and fixed some links so I recommend you check out what is becoming a pretty decent list of retro and modern gaming sites. Finally, in an effort to make up for the slackness of late, heroes some shoutout's:

Shoutout to Chris for tipping me off about cheap N64 games in eltham- i might make the trip sometime soon if i can scramble some money up (sucks to be me ^^ ). Shoutout to my clan- nRg for being randoms in clan games and not caring that I'm invisible on comms.

Shoutout to National Fast Cash for filling my inbox with spam and crap. Shoutout to James for requesting a rocket Knight scan that I've been looking for since he emailed me in december, but only found last night.

Word to Shaz and Gaz for being lazy asses and spending all their time playing Gamecube. Shoutout to Gaz for thinking he will ever be better than me at Red Card soccer, and Shaz for making me wait for him to buy some decent 2-player GC games. Shoutout to MinXy for visiting regularly :)

Finally, thanks to everyone that's visited, put up with my laziness and you for reading this.

2005 promises lots of "stuff" and a hint of "things".

9:38AM, January 2, 2005 AD by
The Great Escape

Okay so I didn't get around to posting when I said I was going to. So Sue me :p
I did however buy a Nokia N-gage (original model) and I've been messing around with that for a couple of weeks. I may even write a small review on it if your lucky...

Regular Visitors to the site (if such things exist) will notice the "From the Roundtable" box on the right, that will
update with the 5 newest threads from the Digital Press forum. The DP forum and the Hyperactive forum are where I go for my retro gaming talk; DP for the huge community and knowledge base, hyper for the Au factor. Feel free to harass me on either forum or on the Australian Enemy Territory public servers (TGE in DP, ChaotiX in Hyper and ET).
