Around
the same time that Street Fighter 2 was launched for the Mega Drive
Sega came out with a 6-button controller, and later a 6-button version
of the Arcade stick. There wasnt a large amount of games that
used it, but the ones that did are able to use the extra buttons really benefit.
Fighting games in particular were able to expand beyond the limited 3 button scheme
to compete properly with the SNES.
The 6-button controller also added a "mode" button
which was used to trick the console into thinking it was a regular
3-button controller (for compatibility). Some Mega-CD games and Most 32X
use the extra buttons and the 32x's case the mode button is allocated to
game functions. When I finally
get a 32x/MCD I'll update the list! |
